This is probably the 3rd most common myth we hear on a daily basis ...If I’m nice to myself, I’ll let myself off the hook and I’ll become complacent, lazy, and stagnant.
I’d try to be more gentle and open minded with this ...but it’s just plain false!!
Try this little thought experiment:
Think about that grade school teacher that you loved ...that you STILL smile when you think about. Think about the love of learning that was lit up inside you. Possibly only to be snuffed out by some power hungry overbearing taskmaster who could never be pleased a few years later.
Now ...which teacher are you choosing to be when you talk to you? And what is the justification for that again? Effectiveness???
