Confessions of a Recovering Striver

Whit's Adventures and Blog

Welcome, friend! I'm Whitney Roehl, I'm a recovering Striver. What is a striver?

For me, it was constantly aiming for perfection, relying on my own ambition, strength, and ability. As a Christian, I'd ask God for help but He was my last resort, not my first. Nothing was ever "good enough"I constantly needed to do more, to have more.

I felt empty and exhausted.

When, I finally got to the end of myself, Jesus crashed in with His personable love.

Since then, I've repented of being self-sufficient, constantly striving. Now, I live surrendered. Join me, on this journey.

First - let’s get clear on the general idea of forgiveness toward others

Second - we’ll take a look at the...

Trust U - Christian Life Coaching Jun 14, 2022

We run into Christians who have some questions that usually fit in 1 of 2 basic categories:

  1. I have Jesus, why would I need coaching, plus, isn’t it kind of idolatrous to be thinking I can “self-help”
  2. Are you just going to tell me to pray about it and that it’s all part...

The SKILLS of Belief May 31, 2022

Just because you know what a hammer is and what it is for doesn’t mean you have achieved mastery - that comes from building your SKILL at using the tool.

The same is true with belief - awareness of the tools doesn’t give you authority over your thinking, but building these 5 skills...

The TOOLS of Belief May 24, 2022

When you’re building a house, there are tools that make things go way faster once you know they exist …then there are the skills of knowing just how and when to use each individual tool

The same is true with belief - you don’t have to just believe whatever pops into your head...

The MYTH of Belief May 17, 2022

Mark 9:24  Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

There is a HUGE myth about belief that keeps us feeling stuck and feeling guilty.  The myth is this:  Belief is something outside of me that will take root in me once...

The Enneagram and your Christian Faith May 10, 2022

I had a great conversation with Enneagram coach Kelsey Taylor where we dove into some layers that lie underneath “The Number”  . We talked about skepticism, application, her personal testimony, and how Christians sometimes look on self help tools like this one with suspicion.
