Confessions of a Recovering Striver
Welcome friend! My name is Whitney Roehl (friends call me, "Whit") and I'm a recovering Striver.
What is a striver?
Someone who practices trying hard, to achieve something, from self-determination. For me, it was constantly striving, for years, as a wife, mom, entrepreneur, leader, and self-development... but nothing was ever "good enough". I constantly needed to do more, have more, so I could BE more, AKA to feel worthy and deserving of love.
It was exhausting, stealing my joy and peace, no matter what I achieved.
Until Jesus crashed in with His personable grace, revelation, and love. From that restoration, the idea of this blog was birthed -
Confessions of a Recovering Striver.

From Striving For Love to Resting From Love
If you can relate to any part of that, then I welcome you with a BIG hug and have great news for you, friend.
Jesus graciously met me in my fear-based, compulsive, self-dependent striving. He untangled me from that worldly-paradigm to set me free, and He can do the same for you... if you choose.
I can honestly say, the result of His gracious work with my willingness has resulted in less busyness, resting in His love, and living more FROM His abundance.
It's literally been life-changing!
Now, I'm passionate about imparting the same freedom and love I've received - which is what inspired this blog.
These posts will include paradigm-shifting revelations from His Word, personal testimonies from my nomadic-family-life, and God-inspired encouragements.
I'm genuinely honored you've chosen to read my confessions. I pray my blog imprints your heart, as God invites you deeper with Him, just like He did for me.
P.S. You'll find older blog posts here too. Those have lots of value too, if you choose to explore, you're welcome to.
Have you ever lost your cool in an argument on social media ...me too. Usually because the OTHER person is refusing to live by the FACTS I am offering. Well it's a FACT that attempting to change a belief by bombarding it with facts is ineffective ...so I guess I am the one not...

“If you have declared war against the primary part of you called fear, and that war is now playing out in your mind, you’re spending a lot of energy fighting that war. That doesn’t leave a lot of energy for you to compete in your sport. In many ways, over...
What are you scared of? ...the list is pretty standard. Spiders, snakes, clowns, the dark, and tight spaces. My guess is that THOSE are not the fears that are keeping you from your dreams.
"I WOULD try out for the play ...but there might be a spider, and I don't like how dark...
When you look at the role fear makes in your decision making, do you ever give it magical powers? Sometimes I do. I'll have an idea about something I can build or create. Maybe a unique way that I can offer value to the world - and I'll feel fear. Then I have thoughts...

The first time I heard this famous quote from Teddy Roosevelt I was in Mr Barry's class in high school in 1991. He was an inspirational teacher to me and this quote connected with me on a deep level. There was a seed planted that day - and in 1995, it became the permanent...
In this episode, I asked Whitney about the difficulty she found while she was still living in one story, but attempting to write ...and BELIEVE a new one. She came up with insightful defense mechanisms that her brain used to keep her safe and stuck.
