Confessions of a Recovering Striver

Whit's Adventures and Blog

Welcome, friend! I'm Whitney Roehl, I'm a recovering Striver. What is a striver?

For me, it was constantly aiming for perfection, relying on my own ambition, strength, and ability. As a Christian, I'd ask God for help but He was my last resort, not my first. Nothing was ever "good enough"I constantly needed to do more, to have more.

I felt empty and exhausted.

When, I finally got to the end of myself, Jesus crashed in with His personable love.

Since then, I've repented of being self-sufficient, constantly striving. Now, I live surrendered. Join me, on this journey.

Jesus Your Love Shines Brightest in The Dark Mar 26, 2024

In the darkest, most evil, hopeless, places, that's where Your love shines brightest, Jesus.

I recently, experienced this, first-hand, with a traumatic event that happened to a loved one. There was so much evil, trauma and offense. My mind kept being flooded by disturbing visions, bringing me to...

Let me remind you of the love our Father has lavished on you.
It's limitless and can NOT be measured!

REFUSE to be led astray by needing others approval.
Stop second guessing your worthiness.

You were created for THIS exact moment, this battle, and this purpose.
You ARE...

Divine Encounters: Embracing His Love Mar 19, 2024

Sunday I walked into church with a heavy heart, crushed spirit, and exhausted.

Sometimes life has a way of beating you up, stealing peace, and drowning all hope.

My spirit craved to get lost in Gods presence. As much as I listen to worship and praise music, there's something about...

My Illusion of Self-Sufficiency Feb 27, 2024

Last week, I listened to a teacher of mine, who's on fire for Jesus, share her testimony about leaving the worlds way of doing business to do business the Kingdom way - with Jesus at the center of it all.

As she shared her story, the Holy Spirit convicted me, graciously, of how I kept falling...

Our Memorable Adventure Feb 06, 2024

First, I want to give a big shout out to all the full-time and single moms. Wow, you inspire me by showing up every day to love, guide, and care for these little humans, who need so much.

Although, I am very grateful each day I get to be a mom… the challenges are endless....

My 21 Days of Fasting & Greater Hope Jan 16, 2024

As, I was assessing my level of hope for 2024, to check on where I was either partnering with God or empowering a lie, I discovered a pattern of lower levels of hope. Just to be sure I was assessing correctly, I reminded myself what God-inspired hope meant.

First, hope is not...

Performance While Grieving Nov 13, 2023

Grief is a weird but necessary part of life. No one escapes this emotion. Grief is a deep sorrow, especially caused by someones death. It's strange too because different people handle this process very differently. If you've ever experienced grief, then you're aware of how complex...

Building From Peace not Pressure Oct 15, 2020

- Constantly thinking of work when you’re not working.
- Not having boundaries on work in your personal life.
- Justifying being stressed most...

Feeling Offended, This Could Be Why Sep 18, 2020

Lately, I've been doing some deep forgiveness work on my dad. If you don't know my story, in a nutshell, my dad was a Ranger in Vietnam. He struggled with severe PTSD and alcoholism. He's a good man, but tormented by post-war illnesses.

I forgave him years ago, for all the trauma I...
